THE FINNISH LANGUAGE CLUB

OF EDINBURGH

The Finnish Language Club of Edinburgh is a Finnish-speaking community for families with
children living in Edinburgh. The Club’s main aim is to provide supplementary Finnish
language education for children who speak Finnish as a first or second language. The primary
language of instruction is Finnish, and the content focuses on Finnish language and culture in
a variety of contexts. The purpose is to develop the children’s knowledge of the language and
culture, while maintaining already existing knowledge.

The Finnish Language Club is supported by the Finnish Ministry of Education and is a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organization (no. SC048294).

ACTIVITIES

TEAM

Our current team includes Ella and two assistant teachers.

Ella plans all the sessions and she will be the head of each session. Ella is a 21-year-old Drama student. She is from Tampere and has lived in Edinburgh for 3 years. She likes to spend summers and Christmases in Finland swimming and skiing with her family. Most of her free time during autumn and spring she spends with different theatre projects.

Assistant teachers are sisters Suvi and Elsa. They have been attending Finnish Language Club of Edinburgh since they were babies. They started as assistant teachers about a year ago. Suvi likes drawing and reading and Elsa likes baking and dancing.

TEACHING

The focal point of each class is a chosen theme. During the year we will tackle subjects such as Finnish festivities, important figures, nature and Finnish national identity. The teaching strives to be versatile, motivating and adapted to suit every age group regardless of their linguistic abilities.
